10 things you need for vacation training

Life: One rep at a time 10 things you need for vacation training When I go on vacation, the first thing I check for is where will I be able to work out. Sometimes because of where you might be going you really do not have a choice in the matter. You might be dependent on either no gym, a crappy hotel gym, or a crappy commercial gym. With this in mind, here is a list of things that you should bring with you on your vacation in order to keep your training on course. 1. Yourself: That’s correct. You are your own weight, albeit in some instances maybe too much weight. Do bodyweight exercises, i.e. push-ups, pull-ups, dips, crunches, planks, plyo jumps. 2. Clothing: If you bring workout clothes they will serve as a reminder to, ah, workout! Plus it’s difficult to workout in a skirt and sandles. 3. Footwear: As above you need to have the correct footwear to workout, be it weight training or walking, or running. 4. Bands: Bands are a great accessory if you can’t do bodyweight exercises, or even if you need to supplement bands with a weight that you don’t have. A jump rope is another handy accessory that will keep you moving in between exercises. 5. Gear: By this I mean whatever you use when you do workout. A weight belt, wrist straps or wraps. I would hate to do a back workout without my wrist straps. 6. I-Pod,Watch: I don’t go anywhere without my music..period! Especially if you are in a strange gym and you don’t like the music. Music is my biggest motivator. I always wear my watch too. Maybe you want to time yourself jumping rope or doing jumping jacks outside. 7. Protein Powder: You can’t rely on having protein powder where you are going. This is a staple in my food chain, so I always carry it with me. 8. Water Bottle: An empty water bottle comes in handy to carry your water, mix a quick after workout protein drink. 9. Supplements: Take along whatever supplements you usually take daily. Such as your BCAA’s Glutamine, vitamins 10:A Plan: Always have a plan. If I am in a gym new to me, before I workout, I always walk around check out the equipment and “try it on” then devise a plan as to what I am going to do that day. Well there you have it. Go on vacation..enjoy! But ALWAYS keep working out! Oh by the way Sherry Cusatis and Julie Riccardo are back in the Roberts family training. So if you would like to set up an appointment with either of them, please call me and I will arrange it. Also, as always, tell a friend or two about us, we are never too busy to help another person get healthy. Robert J.
