success

Life: One rep at a time “SUCCESS” Hopefully we all want to be a success at what we do. This is especially true in the gym or the sports arena. Here are 5 principles of attaining that success: 1. CONFIDENCE: This trait isn’t made and it certainly isn’t bought. It is an internal issue that a person must find and master within himself. Confidence, or lack thereof, can make or break a person. Sometimes you may have all the tools to be great at your sport but lack the confidence. If you are unsure of yourself, you will get nowhere. Confidence may get confused with arrogance, but I think that arrogance is just amplified confidence and we’ll talk about this later. YOU NEED TO BE CONFIDENT IN YOURSELF! 2. DESIRE: All successful people have desire. I have never yet met a lackadaisical successful person. It has been said that someone who has honed his craft exceptionally will have put in 10,000 hours specifically to that skill or trade. 3. PREPARATION: Okay, so you have confidence and the desire to be the best at your sport…where do you go from here? You need a plan! You need preparation. Like the saying goes…”If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail”. Many people have great ideas, but they don’t know how to implement them. Don’t be afraid to go to people who are more knowledgeable than you and ask for help. 4. PERSISTANCE: Do it,do it, do it! Stick with the plan. Everyone goes through tough times, it’s just human nature. The person who will succeed is the person who keeps getting up, learns from his mistake and keeps pressing on. You need to eliminate excuses from your life. As a trainer I despise excuses. I make none for myself and I expect my clients to make none too! 5. MODESTY: Okay this seems like just the opposite of #1 CONFIDENCE, but it’s not. You have come full circle. You have done it, reached success in your field. How you handle that success and how other people perceive you is up to you. This may not be a major principle in sports or fitness but it’s one I believe in and live by personally. I have achieved my ultimate goal; being the best built person in the country for my age and attaining professional status because of it, yet hopefully I remain modest. This is the sign of a true professional and a person that has my respect. Robert J.
