Life: One rep at a time
THE “GAP”
I want to deviate from the same path as always this e-mail. No empowering speech about training or diet. Since this weekend is father’s day, I want to talk about being a father, about being the best you can be as a person.
As I’ve said many times “lifting imitates life”. What are you shooting for in this life? What is your aim? Your mission? These are all the same to me, they are a part of your overall success strategy. I firmly believe you need to establish what your main aim is. Who do you want to be? What do you want to be remembered for? Fast forward to 85 years old, sitting in your rocking chair, reflecting back, would you be happy with what you did, passed on as a father? Go further ahead…you’ve passed on from this world to the next. What would your tombstone say? How would your eulogy sound?
I know these are pretty deep questions, but I believe we need to think about them from time to time. We only go around one time and we all need to strive to make the best of it. Remember it’s not how much we got, but how much we gave!
This brings us to the “Gap”. The gap is the time from where we are now to the time when we expire. If you died today would you like the way you would be remembered? If not, then we have the gap to re-arrange things, to get things right. When you begin to fill the gap with how you want to be, you’ll quickly find out that’s who you are. Take your time with this. This should become your primary aim in life. Mete it out in short increments. How will I change things in the next year?, five years? I hope I’ve been a good father to my children. I hope I’ve passed on a legacy that they can be proud of. If not, well then I have the gap to get things right.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY!
