Identify your weaknesses
Every great athlete at one time in his life has had to come to terms with his weaknesses. They may not even be weaknesses, but being pretty good at something just isn’t good enough anymore. Of course since I always associate lifting with life, it seems that we must identify weaknesses in our character also.
We tend to shy away from that which we are unsure or not strong enough to do. We gravitate to the familiar and that which we are sure to be able to complete. And like they say, “keep on doing what you always do and you’ll get what you always got”.
As an athlete, you strive to be as well rounded as you can. You want to be strong, flexible , fast, have endurance, great core strength and balance. This is why you come here. If you shy away from running or jumping because it hurts too much or is uncomfortable this will impair your efforts to be the best you can be. I am asking that you be honest with yourself, take a step back, identify what you don’t enjoy doing and attack it with a vengeance. This is what separates the great from the good. We are all guilty of weaknesses, just ask your trainer. We are not perfect. I am not flexible, I need to stretch more, I have to work on my endurance and probably many more things need my attention. So when your trainer asks you to do something that isn’t in you” fave five” moves, just do it! You will be better off for it. And a word of caution to all my trainers; You Run The Show! Excluding any injury that you client needs to stay away from, don’t feel pity or empathy because your client whines about the jumps that you want her/him to do. You know what they need …TOUGH LOVE!
And since lifting mirrors life in so many ways, take a look at how you can be a better person. What are your life weaknesses? If you identify them( you may need help doing this…seek Edna) you will be the person that I know we all strive to be.
