Last week I talked about the importance of protein and how much we should eat daily. Today I want to extend the information to WHEN you should ingest your protein, because like everything in life, timing is everything.
At any given time, even at rest, your body is breaking down and building protein. Every time you eat at least 30 grams of protein, you trigger a burst of protein synthesis in your body that lasts about 3 hours. But think about this, when do you eat most of your protein? At dinner? This means you could be fueling your muscle growth only in the evening and the rest of the day, without sufficient protein, your body could be breaking down muscle. Therefore you should spread out your protein intake throughout the day. Eating protein 3 to 5 times a day will also help you eat less overall.
But THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME TO EAT PROTEIN is right after your workout. This is when your muscles are primed to respond to protein. You have just finished (hopefully) breaking down muscle and your body requires a fresh infusion of protein to repair and rebuild. This is why we offer protein shakes after your workout!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And please listen, EVERYONE can benefit from protein powder, not only us muscle heads. Your best bet is a fast acting, quick absorbing, high quality kind of protein, like the kind we offer in our personally designed powder. Our whey protein is the best source of leucine which acts as a catalyst to activate protein synthesis. Our whey protein powder contains 10% leucine while animal-based protein only contains 5%.
So please order a shake after you’ve finished your workout. You can customize by adding peanut butter, blueberries or strawberries or any combo of the three. Oh did I say how absolutely delicious they are? R
