Cheating (onyourdiet)

December 11, 2009

The word “cheating” is on media overload lately (thanks Tiger) but I’m talking about a different kind of cheating, that is cheating on your diet. One night out, eating a very nice dinner, warm bread, bottle of wine, and maybe even a decadent dessert can nullify a whole week of eating clean and being very devout about your workouts. One step forward and one step backward, seems to me your going nowhere. I’m not saying that you can’t cheat on rare occasions but there are better food choices and ideas to help you get through these tempting times. With many seasonal parties coming your way, this seems like the ideal time to help you avoid costly nutritional mistakes. First of all Do Not Procrastinate! and tell yourself that you will start eating healthy again on January 2nd so why bother now. I don’t buy it! I am a “there is no time like the present” kind of guy. It all starts before you embark on your party hopping sojourn. Eat something at home first so you won’t be so hungry when you arrive at your destination. Don’t hang around the buffet area, if you see it you’ll want to eat it. After your first drink fill your glass with water or if you need to fool your alcohol drinking buds fill a cocktail glass with juice. Who’s going to know? Choose healthy foods but usually at these soirees healthy flies out the window. So instead choose lesser healthy choices that actually serve you. Mixed nuts are always present, guacamole dip is a not a bad choice but use a vegetable as a scoop not a chip. Walk away from the desserts no good comes of them. Watch your portion sizes! Since what you’re eating isn’t healthy the portion sizes should even be smaller. Pizza isn’t that bad, but eliminate the processed meat sitting on top. Dance and play games. It’s more fun than overeating. I’m sure there are many more ideas out there, so please e-mail them to me and I will pass them on..R
