I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this statement, “I can’t lose weight because I have a slow metabolism.” Bull___! What this actually means to me is that I am having trouble losing weight. The truth is very few people have a “slow” metabolism. To quote Timothy Church, MD, MPH, PhD, professor and director at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge Louisiana, says that so rare that of all the metabolisms we’ve checked, I can’t remember one being legitimately slow.
More likely, regardless of what you say and swear to, you are eating more calories than your body needs to shed weight or eating the wrong kinds of food at the wrong times. Most people wildly underestimate their calorie intake and overestimate their calorie expenditure. Most women will lose weight on 1200-1300 calories a day and most men will lose weight on 1600-1800 calories a day. Please note that this is a generalization but also fairly accurate. If you need to know what your daily caloric intake should be please contact Cindy to find out. And by the way, if you are trying to lose weight then you do need to know that number. Without that number you will be going around in circles. BUT even after you know that number, you need to act upon it. Start counting your daily caloric intake. If you think that it’s too much of a pain in the ass then you will NOT LOSE WEIGHT! You only need to do this once or twice to get the idea of portion sizes than it will become common to you.
Also it’s about the correct foods to eat at the correct times. Once again Cindy can help you with this. But really it’s not rocket science, eat vegetables, fruits, lean meats and good fats, stay away from the refined foods and all the “white deaths” out there that can send your metabolism into fat storage overdrive. Also know that muscle burns more calories than fat all the time, so adding weight training to your lifestyle is a must.
Next time your talking to me, remember don’t even tell me that it’s your metabolism that is causing you not to lose weight, I don’t and won’t buy it…Robert
