Effects of Soda

December 8, 2009

Let me preface this e-mail by stating that I don’t want to come off as being this holier than thou person who never eats a bad meal or never indulges in a cocktail every once in a while…I do. But the operative phrase is once in a while. I am just trying to enlighten everyone to the dangers of abusing your body, it WILL catch up with you. I would like you to start to eat and live more healthy before that “surprise” heart attack comes and all of a sudden you NEED to live better.

With that said, I want to talk about soda, soft drinks, pop, cola, whatever you call this particular drink; it is one of the worst beverages you could be putting into your body. Currently a debate wages as to whether to levy a tax on soft drinks. All I can say about that is they tax cigarettes don’t they?

Soft drinks are hard on your health. They contain no vitamins or essential nutrients, however it’s what they do contain that is the problem; caffeine, carbonation, simple sugars, or worse, sugar substitutes, food additives, artificial coloring, and flavoring, and preservatives. The USDA recommendation of sugar consumption (2000 calorie diet) is 10 teaspoons of sugar a day. Many soft drinks contain much more than this. Hopefully by this time you all know the dangers of ingesting too much sugar. I have been extolling the calamitous effects of sugar in almost every e-mail. I don’t want to list the harmful effects again. Now, one might ask, what about “sugar free” soda. Well if you think aspartame, sucralose, or saccharin are healthy by-products then by all means have a soda. These sweeteners get broken down by the body to several acids that have been found to be carcinogenic to the body.

Now how about carbonation? How healthy can that be? Well those innocuous bubbles contain phosphoric acid which can severely deplete the body’s calcium levels. You should know what happens when calcium becomes depleted?..Osteoporosis is just one result, there are others. One last little ditty I need to mention… how about mixing your alcohol with soda?? A double whammy at least! I mention all this because many parties are about to be offered to everyone and of course a proliferation of alcohol. I’ve already heard so many stories of people drinking too much at Thanksgiving and now it will start all over again. I almost believe people are proud of their drinking exploits. Wow that is really something to be proud of! MORONS!

Please drink alcohol and soda in limited moderation. I want to see you guys here for a long time to come. It’s time to start to take care of yourselves…R
